And catching things up to where the project is now, I’ve added the ability to dig up the terrain! Woo!
A while back I made a house blockout model for the game and came up with a cutaway shader for running around indoors
I added an inventory system to the game last week! YOU CAN WEAR HATS!
A gif from some earlier prototyping work for how construction would work in the game. This was before I’d started on the terrain system!
I learned a lot from this early prototype, and I think the system is going to change a lot when I get back to it. For one, it feels like the game really wants construction to be wall-and-floor based (e.g. The Sims) rather than block based (e.g. Minecraft), so the next building prototype will be pretty different!
Here’s a look at the ongoing evolution of the terrain for the game, from just yesterday to over a month ago. Each image represents about a week of development!
Previously Dormant Account Emerges With New Project

GUESS WHAT KIDDOS I’M MAKING A NEW GAME
Here’s a small list of major bullet points:
- Mech game is not cancelled!
- I’m making a smaller game first! (it’s in the above screenshot)
- This will help me learn a lot about making my own games
and also hopefully give me the time (aka funding) to do the mech game
well
- I realized I was always going to be too precious with ideas for the mech game and would therefore be unwilling to cut it down to a size that would be reasonable to hope to complete by myself as my first solo project
- The new game is in a random magic forest with mushrooms and stuff
-
You can jump on things!
- You’ll be able to build a custom house or castle or bungalow for yourself
- Punch a ghost???
More after the “keep reading” break thing here!
A new medium mech design that I’m putting together. Trying out a bit of asymmetry, which I think is going to show up more and more.
